Justin is the Reason for My Happiness

This is currently the No. 1 trending topic on twitter: #ImABelieberBecause. One of Justin's fans tweeting the following...

#ImABelieberBecause Justin is the reason for my happiness. He is my inspiration. RT if its the same reason you are a Belieber :)

Reality check for all you kids and grown ups. If anything outside of you is the reason for your happiness, you are in for a life of sadness. You cannot control what others do, think, believe or say. You only have complete control over your choices.

There is one choice that always creates happiness. It is choosing to believe that you deserve happiness and that you will treat yourself accordingly. And then making other choices in accordance with that truth. When that occurs on a continual basis, happiness can flow from and then to you.

Justin is awesome. Makes great music for... for... for... someone? LOL. I kid. But kids, kids, kids, do not base your happiness on Justin. It's full of fail.

Base your happiness on your innate self worth as a beautiful human being and your right to be happy. You deserve it. Choose it for yourself. Do those things that create happiness for you and others.

787

I am starting to make a list of goals for 2013. One of them is to fly on a 787. It's not the easiest thing to do. They are mostly on international routes and often require flying to or from Asia. Accomplishing it would mean that I am meeting other goals in my life regarding career and speaking ambitions. Here's to the 787. See you soon.

Be the Best... at Something.

It's super inspiring to watch people who have completely committed to being the very best that they can be at something. Anyone can do it, not everyone does. But it is truly within each of us to commit to being the very best that we can be... at something.

Choose Joy over Worry.

Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy.  ~Leo Buscaglia

Worry is a wasted emotion. It may serve as a signal that you need to prepare for what is to come, but dwelling in worry prevents one from living and doing and creating and experiencing. Recognize you are worried... then let it go. Commit to actions that will move you forward, and experience the happiness and joy that you deserve in this moment. Let the worry go.

Dream Team 1992

In 1992, professional basketball players represented the USA at the Olympics for the first time. They outscored their opponents by an average of 44 points per game. Since then, with each Olympics, many of the rest of the world's countries have stepped up their games to compete on the same level as Team USA in basketball. What caused them to improve their skills so dramatically?

Inspiration is no doubt a key factor. When Roger Banister ran a 4 minute mile in 1954, within one year,  many other runners accomplished what had long been considered a physical impossibility. They were inspired to achieve more.

As we look forward to London 2012, here's to the original USA Dream Team and their ability to inspire. Here's to the idea of letting others inspire us to greater heights.

Go Blue, Go BSU

I lived 45 minutes from Boise State University since the 2nd grade and even attended for one semester in the late 80's after graduating high school. (Who didn't?) Back then it was all about basketball. Now there's a new kid on the block. A football program that just doesn't quit.

Behold... BSU v. Michigan State on August 31, 2012.

Bryce Harper: Push hard to Play hard.

Bryce Harper is a phenom in the world of baseball. He will play in the Major League All Star Game as the youngest non-pitcher in the history of that game. His secret? He is always pushing himself harder to play harder than anyone else, as put by Cole Hamels, starting pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies.

You may not be aiming to hit home runs, but think about your passion. What causes your mind to keep spinning long after you've gone to bed. Use your desire for success in that area of your life to push yourself harder and play harder than anyone else would ever expect you to.

Demand excellence from yourself. Set your standards hire. Just like Bryce, you'll keep hitting home runs in your life.

In this clip, Bryce hits his first home run in AA base ball.

Huge Failure

Weightlifters only succeed by failing again, and again, and again. It it only by lifting to failure that the body via hormones, will send a chemical signal to the muscles being worked that more strength is needed and that they have to grow. Through repeated failure, growth is assured.

If you are not succeeding in life... it may be that you are not failing enough. Stop focusing on having to succeed in every moment and focus on the doing or even the failing. Fail as many times as you can. After failing over and over again, you may notice a pattern emerging. Among the failures, you may find small successes and then eventually huge triumphs.

If you're not succeeding, your not failing nearly enough.

Owning Truth

It is one thing to know the truth, it is another to own the truth, to internalize it and act on it. When we make it our mission to learn what is empowering, and allow our behaviors to reflect that knowledge, we are truly in a position to grow as a person. Then we are also in a position to care about and empathize with ourself.

This is a fantastic PSA that shares that point. Using the truth to empathize not only with others, but also with yourself, and to change your behavior as a result of acting on what you know is true is important.

This PSA was shown on Thai television to discourage the behavior of smoking. It does so in a very unique way. Please watch...

See Amazing

The solar eclipse on May 20, 2012 was an amazing site seen by many in the world. What is something amazing you could see today? It might be up in the sky, under a leaf in your garden, or maybe you'll see it when you close your eyes. See something amazing.

Open and Endless

In this moment. You get to choose... What you're thinking, focusing on, doing or not doing. You get to choose. What your feeling. How you're breathing. What comes next. What things will mean to you. You get to decide.

So what will you choose.

Start with this sky. What will you choose to put into this sky? Put anything there. There's no right or wrong, there is just what you choose.

Once you've done that... Decide what is next. How are you going to feel today? Who will you call? What will you learn? What will you stop and what will you start?

You get to choose. Smiley Face.

If you are considering a new direction in life, you may not know exactly where that road will take you. Don't let fear prevent you from starting anyway. Sometimes the journey has more value than the destination.

Think Even Smaller

This is a picture taken by Voyager 1 as as it began to leave our solar system. In the distance, 6 billion kilometers away is a pale blue dot... Planet Earth.

Everything that has ever happened in human history has taken place on what is a tiny grain of sand in an immense sea of empty space.

In his book, "Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space", the astronomer Carl Sagan related his thoughts on a deeper meaning of the photograph:

"We succeeded in taking that picture [from deep space], and, if you look at it, you see a dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever lived, lived out their lives. The aggregate of all our joys and sufferings, thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lived there on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.

The earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and in triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of the dot on scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner of the dot. How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity – in all this vastness – there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. It is up to us. It's been said that astronomy is a humbling, and I might add, a character-building experience. To my mind, there is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly and compassionately with one another and to preserve and cherish that pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known."

Sometimes it can help to think even smaller.

Think Smaller

Sometimes the key to success is thinking small. What tiny action could help move you forward. Don't allow feelings of overwhelm to stop progress. Think small. What is something small that will propel you towards a result you want.

Step 1: Think of a tiny Action you could accomplish right now.
Step 2: Go and do that Action.

Don't feel like you have to everything today. Just do something.
You can achieve the results you want.

Sometimes you just have to think small.
